85 CEO TODAY MIDDLE EAST AWARDS 2020 Manufacturing Grant Phipps Group General Manager of Muna Noor Manufacturing Grant’s career started in the plastics industry where he qualified as a mechanical Engineer. At this time new quality systems such as BS5750 (later to become ISO9000) were coming into vogue and Grant specialized in Quality Assurance gaining one of the first registrations for ISO9000 in the plastics industry and became a member of The Institute of Quality Assurance. Following this Grant joined the water treatment industry as a design and production engineer working on reverse osmosis (desalination) and demineralization plants. At the end of this period he was running the production operation for the company, Siemens Water Technology, later to become Ecowater. Grant left the water treatment industry in 1992 and joined the valve industry as Engineering Director for Reliance worldwide, an Australian based group producing valves for the HVAC industry. Five years with Reliance prepared Grant for an extremely successful ten www.munanoor.com year stretch as Managing Director of Watts Industries UK part of a multi- national group of valve manufacturers based in the USA. During this period Grant founded one of the first E-commerce companies trading in the domestic plumbing and bathroom business in the UK. He later sold this to Grafton Group. On leaving Watts Group, Grant re-joined Reliance Worldwide as Commercial Director for another three years, then went onto Managing Director of Dart Valley Systems a manufacturer of infra-red controlled sanitary systems for major airports worldwide. Grant then entered the Pipe Industry as General Manager UK for Pipelife the European pipe conglomerate, after which he joined Improved Piping Products as Managing Director Europe and GM in Texas. In early 2014 Grant joined Muna Noor in Oman as Group General Manager, Grant’s experience in business has been both wide ranging in products and geographically having worked in the USA, South America, Europe, China and the Middle East. Grant is a member of the institutes of Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers, Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Safety and Institute of Directors. Muna Noor was set up 42 years ago as a plastic pipe manufacturer and as one of the first companies in Oman. As part of the brand’s progressive character, capacities and product ranges are continuously expanded. To date Muna Noor’s divisions deliver large-scale and bespoke HDPE, uPVC, DWC and Multi-layer HDPE pipes, fittings, plastic fabrication, lining for steel pipe, traditional and electro fusion welding solutions, complete irrigation systems, SCADA control systems and a multiplicity of valves and controls for water. The company continues to develop product state-of-the-art solutions with the aim to exceed client expectations and collaborate on new and exciting projects.
