RONY PAUL THEKKANATH Dr. Rony is an engineer by qualification, a leader by vision and an entrepreneur by passion. He is best known in the industry as a solution provider and a strategist. His interest in staying up-to-date on the industry best practices keeps him well ahead of the competition. Dr. Rony Paul is a mechanical engineer from the Bharathiar University, holding an MBA from the renowned Madurai Kamaraj University of India. During the early ages of his career, he worked with various multinational companies to gain experience in handling complex situations which gained him the capability in setting up Petrofac Qatar W.L.L. in 1997. His outstanding administrative capabilities earned him an honorary doctorate from the international Open University, Colombo in 2018. An interview with Dr. Rony Paul Thekkanath How does it feel on winning this global recognition? As always, awards are exciting. I would like to thank CEO TODAY Magazine team for honoring me with this prestigious award. I am glad that our principals and suppliers have nominated me for this award and I really feel happy seeing their support and encouragement in doing business. I am really thankful to all my well-wishers for their encouragement. Could you give us a brief about PETRO-Q? We are a 20 year old company in Qatar, providing engineering equipment and value added services by associating with world-renowned & approved brands by engaging a team of professionally qualified and dedicated individuals, to the Oil & Gas and infrastructure industries. We have 11 sales divisions within the company, such as; Piping, Mechanical, Valves, Static Equipment, Rotating Equipment, Electrical, Instrumentation, Drilling, Insulation, Hydraulics and Industrial products. What is your competitive advantage or unique selling point over your competitors? Our global reach, which has consistently grown over the past 20 years, is our strength. We are known for our on-time delivery and commitments in the market. We are a preferred vendor for the oil & Gas industries as we are capable of supplying materials within the shortest lead-time from anywhere in the world. Being a supplier to the oil & Gas industry is challenging as we face various types of requirement on a daily basis. Our team of engineers is at the forefront to address these requirements. Their consultative sales approach is our added strength. What are your visions and strategies while moving forward? Our vision is to expand on our technical capabilities locally within Qatar to provide our clients with the latest and innovative solutions that are cost effective for their plant maintenance, repair and operations activities. Our strategy is simple; we focus on building the right team and partners while expanding our in-house technical capabilities. While we know PETRO-Q is doing strong in the Oil & Gas business, we have noticed that you have expanded your business in to the Infrastructure segment too, why is this diversification? We started off doing business in the Oil & Gas industry and got well known for our capabilities. Although there was room for further developments within the oil & Gas sector, I looked in to the opportunities within the country such as FIFA 2022 & 2030 National Vision. It was a strategic decision to diversify our business in to the Infrastructure segment. Today, we are equally known for our reach in both oil & Gas and Infrastructure business. Not just the satisfaction of revenue while doing this business but also the prestige of serving the landmark projects such as stadiums, rail network, new cities etc., in Qatar is what we are really happy about. What do you do to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader? The demand, technology, challenges all keeps changing so I spend enough time being a good listener. I listen to the needs of my customers, I keep myself busy in my social circle and in business communities and even more, I put efforts to keep my team of employees happy and motivated. Reading news articles, watch informative talks and discussions regularly are other means I follow to stay up-to-date.
